Abuja, Nigeria – June 2025, …ONN…
Turkish Airlines has celebrated its 10th anniversary of direct operations in Abuja, marking a decade of air connectivity between Nigeria’s capital and Istanbul.
Speaking at a commemorative dinner in Abuja, Mr. Akin Carcki, General Manager of Turkish Airlines, described the milestone as a celebration of “dreams taking flight,” as the airline reflected on its journey of resilience, growth, and global recognition.
“Since our first flight to Abuja in 2015, we have turned challenges into achievements and formed strategic partnerships that helped us soar,” Carcki said.
He revealed that the airline has completed more than 6,000 flights in and out of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, delivering world-class service rooted in “Turkish hospitality.”

Carcki expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for fostering a conducive aviation environment, acknowledging that Turkish Airlines’ success would not have been possible without Nigeria’s support.
“We are not just in the business of transport, we are in the business of connection,” he said, adding that the airline’s resilience during global crises, especially the pandemic, reaffirmed its mission to reunite families, empower businesses, and bridge nations.
Global Expansion and Recognition
Carcki announced that Turkish Airlines now operates flights to 353 destinations in 131 countries, supported by a fleet of 485 modern aircraft.
Just last week, the airline clinched eight Skytrax 2025 Awards, including Best Airline in Europe for a record 10th time, further solidifying its global prestige.
“We continue to embrace innovation, enhance passenger experience, and grow our global footprint, while maintaining our commitment to excellence,” Carcki said.
He also emphasized the critical role of the airline’s travel agency partners and industry stakeholders, who have remained loyal through challenges and success stories alike.
Looking Ahead
Turkish Airlines reaffirmed its commitment to expanding operations, deepening partnerships, and investing in people and technology to ensure smarter, safer, and more comfortable travel.
“We are committed to growing together, building international connectivity and unforgettable travel experiences with our partners and passengers,” Carcki concluded.
The anniversary dinner was attended by top dignitaries including Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, his deputy Elif Durdu, officials from Nigeria’s Ministries of Aviation and Foreign Affairs, and representatives of travel agencies.
Background: Turkish Airlines began its operations in Nigeria with direct flights to Lagos in 2006 before expanding to Abuja in 2015, making Nigeria a strategic hub in West Africa.
