An 11-year-old Grade 5 pupil at Sinqobile Primary School in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, South Africa, is recovering after allegedly being forcibly circumcised by four older pupils inside a school toilet.
The incident reportedly occurred during break time on August 14, 2026, when the boy was allegedly taken into a toilet by four Grade 7 pupils. According to his mother, the boys restrained him and carried out the circumcision before threatening him with violence if he told anyone.

The child initially kept the incident from his family. His mother later became concerned after noticing that he was walking unusually and struggling with pain. She eventually took him to a doctor, where she learned that her son had been circumcised.
Police have opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is handling the investigation, and no arrests had been reported in the latest coverage.
The Gauteng Department of Education has also confirmed that the incident is being investigated. School officials have expressed concern over the alleged attack, while the boy’s mother has reportedly been reluctant to send him back to school because of the trauma.
The case has sparked wider concerns about learner safety, bullying and unauthorized circumcision practices. Authorities are expected to establish exactly what happened and determine responsibility as the investigation continues.
