Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold has revealed that genotype compatibility was one of the major factors he considered before taking his relationship with fellow singer Simi toward marriage.
The singer made the disclosure during an interview on the One54 Africa podcast, where he discussed his experience living with sickle cell disease and the importance of genotype awareness when people are considering relationships and starting families.
According to Adekunle Gold, checking their genotypes was among the first things he and Simi did after meeting. He said the result showed that Simi is AA, allowing the relationship to continue.
Gold explained that he would not have proceeded with the relationship or marriage if the result had presented what he considered an unacceptable risk for their future children.
He said his position was influenced by his personal experience with sickle cell disease and his concern about knowingly bringing children into circumstances that could expose them to serious health challenges.
