Another Nigerian Killed in South Africa, Community Demands Justice
The Nigerian community in South Africa has been plunged into mourning following the killing of a Nigerian national, Emeka Uzor, on Sunday.
The incident was confirmed by the Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA), the umbrella body representing Nigerians living in the country, in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
The statement was jointly signed by NUSA President, Mr. Smart Nwobi, and the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Akindele Olunloyo.
According to the union, Uzor was fatally shot at about 3:00 p.m. at a Carltex fuel station in Windsor East, Randburg, Johannesburg.
NUSA said the victim, who hailed from Nkerefi in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, was attacked while seated in his vehicle, describing the killing as a suspected case of assassination.

The union noted that the incident reflects a disturbing pattern of violent attacks against Nigerian nationals residing in South Africa.
NUSA called on the South African government, particularly the Minister of Police and the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, to ensure a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the killing.
The union also urged authorities to bring anyone found responsible to justice.
It further appealed to South African authorities to take decisive steps to address the recurring acts of violence targeting Nigerian nationals.
In addition, NUSA called on the Nigerian government, through the offices of the Consul-General and the High Commissioner, to intensify diplomatic engagement with South African officials on the safety of Nigerians.
The union urged the Nigerian Mission to collaborate closely with NUSA as a community-based organisation to address the matter through diplomatic and legal channels.
Expressing confidence in South Africa’s justice system, NUSA said it hoped that those responsible would be identified and prosecuted, allowing the victim’s family to obtain closure.
The union also appealed to Nigerians living in South Africa to remain calm and law-abiding during the period of mourning.
NUSA said it is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served.
