Fayose Alleges Two Ex-Nigerian Presidents Receiving Treatment in London: “What a Country!”
Lagos, Nigeria. July 11, 2025, …ONN…
Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has raised fresh concerns about Nigeria’s healthcare system following claims that two former Nigerian presidents are currently receiving medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
In a video shared on his verified Instagram page, Fayose alleged that former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Abdulsalami Abubakar are both in London undergoing undisclosed medical procedures. According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly dispatched aides to check on the former leaders while they receive care abroad.
“Two former presidents of Naija [are] in London receiving treatment in the UK. No hospital to take them to in Nigeria in their old age,” Fayose stated in the video.
He expressed dismay at the irony that despite decades of political leadership, these elder statesmen now rely on foreign medical systems, ironically operated, in part, by Nigerian-trained healthcare professionals who had left the country in search of better opportunities abroad.
“Funny enough, it’s Nigerian Japa doctors and nurses attending to them in the UK. What a country,” Fayose added.
Although his claims have not been independently verified or confirmed by any official sources, the remarks have reignited public discourse around medical tourism among Nigeria’s political elite, a trend that has persisted despite repeated promises to improve the country’s healthcare infrastructure.
Critics argue that the reliance on foreign hospitals by past and present leaders is a direct consequence of chronic underinvestment in Nigeria’s medical sector, which has seen a mass exodus of doctors and other medical professionals, many of whom now practice in the UK, US, and Canada.

Fayose’s comments come at a time when health unions in Nigeria continue to protest working conditions, and when the country is grappling with a shortage of doctors due to the “Japa” wave, Nigeria’s slang for the widespread emigration of professionals.
As of press time, no official statements have been made by the offices of the former presidents or the presidency in response to Fayose’s claims.
