A tragic domestic incident in Ibogun Akinode, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, has claimed the lives of a Celestial Church of Christ pastor, Bidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, following an alleged marital dispute.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 2 a.m. on Monday, August 31, when an argument between the couple allegedly escalated into a violent confrontation at their home beside the Celestial Church of Christ, Iri Orun Parish, which Odukoya reportedly shepherded.
Residents who responded to the incident said Adenike was found seriously injured inside the three-bedroom family home. Community accounts cited by Nigerian media alleged that she had suffered injuries from a machete and a wooden stool. She reportedly died from her injuries.
Odukoya, who was said to be the father of three boys, reportedly left the community after the incident. He was later involved in a fatal motor vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident at Iyana Coker Bus Stop along the Ifo axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and died at the scene. Police sources cited in subsequent reports said investigators later confirmed his identity after examining the body at a morgue.
Some residents told journalists that Odukoya may have deliberately entered the path of an approaching truck. However, this aspect remains a community account and has not been independently established as an official finding.
Questions surrounding alleged infidelity have also emerged. A community youth leader claimed that accusations of unfaithfulness involving both husband and wife contributed to the marital crisis. Another neighbour, however, said the couple had allegedly experienced repeated domestic disputes before the fatal incident. The police have not officially confirmed infidelity as the motive.
The tragedy has shocked residents who said the couple had lived in the community for roughly nine or 10 years and were generally regarded as friendly and respectful.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that the case is under investigation, with the file reportedly being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department to establish the facts surrounding the deaths.
The incident has renewed concerns about domestic violence and the importance of seeking timely intervention when marital disagreements become threatening or violent.
